Mr Benson Chakaya Atonga

Country / Where did you grow up:
I was born in Western Kenya, lived in Nandi County, where I attended Primary and Secondary school education.

Academic qualifications:
BA(Communication and Media), Maseno University, Kenya
MA(Political Science), University of University of Nairobi, Kenya

Experience:
I am currently working as National Coordinator  of Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights for Adolescent and Youth under the Right Here Right Now Platform Kenya.
I previously worked at Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) as a Thematic Expert where i facilitated the evaluation of  Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights projects  in Eastern Africa.  
I also worked as Programs Advisor at the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) under Equality and Non Discrimination  programme  where I worked on enhancement of participation of targeted marginalized groups in political governance.
In 2013-2014, I worked at Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU), on Torture Prevention and Police Reforms. It coincided with the time Kenyan police was undergoing reforms at different levels including; institutional, legal frameworks and operational reforms.
I joined the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI)2014 and 2016, I worked with National Human Rights Institutions in Africa, where i had the opportunity to gain experience in addressing systemic inequality and discrimination and marginalization among other gross human rights violations.

Academic fields of interest:
My main interest is in working on  Political Governance, Equality, Non-Discrimination and inclusion,  Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights.

Position prior to the programme:
I work as a National Coordinator of Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights for Adolescent and Youth under the Right Here Right Now Platform Kenya.

    I was born in Osun State, Nigeria but grew up in Ondo State, Nigeria.

    I was called to the Nigerian bar as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in September, 2016 and have had 6 years of active legal practice. I have also been involved in active participation in community development service with Non – Profit Organisations.

            Ms Lucy Mitei

            Country / Where did you grow up:
            I grew up in Koibatek District located at the Former Rift Valley Province in Kenya

            Academic qualifications:
            I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, from the University of Nairobi, Kenya

            Experience:
            I worked at the Gender Violence Recovery Centre (GVRC) of the Nairobi Women’s Hospital as Social Worker for a year and was involved with providing psychosocial care to survivors of gender based violence.

            I also worked at GVRC as a Programme Officer for two years and it involved result-based programme development and management, advocacy and lobbying, establishing partnerships, developing and implementing research agenda and resource mobilization with regards to gender based violence.

            Currently I work as a Director at a grass root organization I founded called the Gender Empowerment & Wellness Centre (GEWEC) that seeks to empower women and children through initiatives such as mentorship, life skills education, sexual and reproduction education and care among others. Also, I am implementing a research agenda on FGM in my community.
